Glasgow v Tir Conaill
13/11/2005
On the 13 November the ladies played host to Tir Conaill Harps at Garscube, on a cold but sunny day. It was the first game the new management team of The Paul's were in charge and hopes were high of a good performance.
Right from the throw in Glasgow got stuck in, competing well for every ball. The midfield pairing of Aileen B and Mariead dominated the center of the park, supplying good quality ball into the full forward line, with Kim (captain) leading by example and getting a few early scores on the board. Tir Conaill came back into the game after a poor start and threatened the Glasgow goal on a few occasions, but with Sandra playing exceptionally well at full back, and Caroline & Margaret showing great determination it was hard to see where Tir Conaill were going to get a score from. As the half wore on the half back line of Ros, Niamh & Julie came into their own, defending well and attacking up the wings to support the Half forward line. At half time Glasgow were leading 2-4 to 0-0.
The management team were delighted with the first half performance, with Julie summing it up nicely "we were playing so well I felt like crying". The Paul's took a more pragmatic approach and encouraged the girls not to get too carried away as we still had the second half to go.
Glasgow continued as they had left off in the first half, scoring freely and defending doggedly. All the Glasgow forwards were wanting to get on the score sheet, with the half forward line of Aileen M, Olivia & Joanne giving great support to the full forwards Hannah & Kim. Even the backs were straying forward with Julie getting a point from the half back line (which she was very pleased with)
Ten minutes into the second half the first substitution of the game was made when Emer, Lucy & Monica came on. These changes didn't upset the flow of the Glasgow team as they continued to push for scores. Within another 5 minutes the rest of the subs were used with Laura, Maeve & Jenny coming on to replace the tired legs of the Glasgow players. Catherine playing in goals had a quiet afternoon, just conceding a very late goal to give Tir Conaill their first score of the game.
The Glasgow players didn't come out of the game unscaved, with Ros, Niamh & Aileen M picking up knocks. Also in one of the last attacks of the game Jenny picked up a bloody nose but just picked herself up and got on with it.
As the final whistle blew Glasgow players celebrated a very satisfying victory, and headed to the Aragon Bar to celebrate. The final score was Glasgow 6-12 Tir Conaill 1-0. It was an all round team performance with Sandra in the backs and Kim in the forwards playing particularly well.
The management team were delighted and headed to the pub to make sure the girls didn't drink too much.

Glasgow v Abertay
20/11/2005
The Glasgow team turned out in great numbers for this game which was being played at Pearse Park at Cambuslang in Glasgow. Unfortunately the pitch was frozen and the ref called the game off, as it would have been to dangerous to play. The Glasgow team were very disappointed as they felt very confident of a victory. It is hoped that this game will be played early in 2006.
Stirling v Glasgow
27/11/2005
It was an early start for the Glasgow girls as they met on the steps of the GU at the ridiculously early time of 10.30 ( Do they not know that we go out on a Saturday Night). Numbers were thin on the ground as the management team turned up at 10.40 (Late Again), with only 14 girls present. So after a few frantic phonecalls Margaret said she would come along, even though she had an assignment to be handed in first thing on Monday morning ( what a soldier). So with 15 players Glasgow headed off to Stirling.
With only 15 players the management had to find the best positions for each player, but after deciding on a team Stirling announced they only had 13 players, so Glasgow agreed to play 13 as well leaving them with 2 subs.
Glasgow started well with Kim getting an early goal and Aileen adding to it with a point from a free. Stirling responded with 2 points one of which was from a free. With 10 minutes gone the Ref booked one of the Stirling girls for dangerous play after she tackled high around the neck. The Ref then warned that the next high dangerous tackle would lead to a sending off. After 15 minutes Mariead playing at midfield for Glasgow went over on her ankle and sprained it, she had to be carried from the pitch.
This meant a reshuffle of the team with Catherine coming on at corner back, Maeve moving out to half back and Julie moving into midfield. It took Glasgow a while to settle into the new formation which aloud Stirling to get another point. Before the end of the half Glasgow managed to score another goal and 2 point leaving the half time score Stirling 0-3 Glasgow 2-3.
At half time the Glasgow girls were feeling the pace of the game, as it was a fast physical contest. The Paul's made sure they rested and got plenty of liquids on board in preparation for the second half.
Glasgow started well again with Aileen getting a goal and Kim slotting over another point. Laura, Cath & Emer were working tirelessly in the half forward line, holding up ball for the midfield to run on to. But Glasgow were unable to score from this possession.
Then Stirling started to get the upper hand as the Glasgow team started to look tired. A bad pass and a poor clearance from the Glasgow defence allowed Sterling to score 2 goals in succession. The Glasgow defence were badly missing Sandra at fullback who missed the game due to injury. Sterling scored another goal bringing them back to within a point of Glasgow.
But the Glasgow girls rallied together and seemed to get a second wind. The defence tightened up with Ros, Niamh, Caroline & Margaret showing great determination kerbing the flow of the Sterling attack. The Glasgow midfield who were posted missing for the previous 10 minutes came back to life and started running at the Sterling defence.
With some great one -two passing between Emer & Aileen Glasgow scored another goal. Julie now playing at midfield got allot of ball from the Glasgow defence and played a great ball into Cath who played it to Kim who made no mistake by sticking it in the back of the net.
Glasgow were now putting allot of pressure on the Stirling defence, which paid off as Sterling gave away a penalty. Aileen stepped up to take it and slotted it into the corner of the net. These goals put Glasgow back in the driving seat and demoralised the Sterling team.
With 10 minutes left to play Glasgow brought on Jenny in the full forward line, and she was very unlucky not to score a goal straight away. Sterling continued to push forward in search of a goal but Hannah playing in goals made a few good saves and cleared her lines well.
Stirling did manage to get a point late in the game, but Glasgow responded by doing the same at the other end. Everyone was glad to hear the final whistle in a hard fought game. Final score Sterling 3-4 Glasgow 6-5. Again it was an all round team performance by Glasgow with Aileen & Julie playing particularly well
The Glasgow management were delighted with the performance considering they were missing so many key players.
